There isn’t a set schedule or specific temperature that triggers the activation of the residence hall and apartment heating systems. The Student Life Facilities team makes decisions based on current weather patterns and long-term forecasts, particularly when several consecutive cool days indicate the transition into colder seasons here in Michigan.
Since our residence halls differ in size, age, and heating systems, temperatures can vary from one building to another and may occasionally result in early requests for heat before the systems are fully running. Typically, most campus heating systems are turned on when outdoor temperatures consistently range between 50 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
