Graduate students who have housing contracts may request to move to a different apartment/room or community for current or future contract periods.

Apartment/Room Change requests are given priority over new applicants except for the months of June, July and August. Changes are not offered in those months.

Michigan Housing takes into consideration the reason for the request, the date the request was submitted and the availability of space. Requests based on an increase or decrease in family size or financial need have priority over requests based on convenience.

Your apartment/room change request will remain active through the current contract year, duration of eligibility or until an apartment change is completed or cancelled by the applicant or by Michigan Housing.

If a new space is offered, you will have 48 hours to accept or decline the offer. Be specific with your request (e.g. unit type, area, dates and any other special needs.)

If a space is offered to you and it is declined, your change request will be cancelled and you will need to submit a new request.

Michigan Housing reserves the right to deny an apartment/room change request for any reason, including but not limited to, an outstanding balance on your account, contract violations, housekeeping concerns, or damages to the current unit.
