Are you ready to plan your living arrangements for the 2026-2027 year? There are a couple of options available to you:

Contract Renewal
Apartment/Room Change
Contract Termination/Ending

More information on these options follows below. Please complete your chosen option no later than March 10, 2026.

Apartments will be contracted to new applicants if renewal contracts are not submitted by March 10, 2026.

Contract reassignments, transfers, and sublets are not permitted. For more information, beginning in mid-January, you may review the 2026-2027 Housing Terms and Conditions located on the Policies page.

Northwood Contract Renewal

The contract renewal period begins on February 17, 2026, and ends on March 10, 2026.

Northwood renewal contracts are for occupancy from June 1, 2026 to May 31, 2027.

You may renew your contract for your current apartment.

Contract Renewal Steps:

Check your University status to verify that it accurately reflects your status for the new contract period (student or non-student). If your status is non-student or will change to non-student, you may not be eligible to renew your contract, and we encourage you to email graduatehousing@umich.edu to inquire about your eligibility status.
Read the contract. You will be asked to confirm or add new household members.
Submit your contract renewal. Please note that when you click “I Agree” you are committing to a legally binding contract and will be required to honor the contract in full.
Starting February 17, 2026, visit your Michigan Housing portal to renew your contract.

Munger Graduate Residences Contract Renewal

The contract renewal period begins on February 17, 2026 and ends on March 10, 2026.

Munger renewal contracts are either June 1, 2026 to May 23, 2027 or August 1, 2026 to July 23, 2027.

You may renew your contract for your current room. If you renew your contract, you may stay in your room through the start of your new contract. Your rent for that month will be billed at the full monthly rate.

A submitted renewal contract is legally binding.

Want to Change Location?

If you have a contract with Michigan Housing and you would like to change where you are living, please submit a ‘Room Changes’ form in the Michigan Housing portal.

You are required to renew your contract in order to be eligible for an apartment change. An apartment change is not guaranteed. Apartment changes are paused from April 1 through September 1 annually to prioritize new grad assignments.

Please note that submission of the form does not guarantee an apartment change. Offers for an apartment are subject to availability. If we have something available to offer you, information will be sent to your umich email.

In the form, you are able to request the following changes:

Northwood Residents

Northwood apartment change request (moving within Northwood to another Northwood apartment)
Northwood to Munger change request (moving from Northwood to Munger)

Munger Residents

Munger room/suite change request (moving within Munger to another Munger room/suite)
Munger to Northwood change request (moving from Munger to Northwood)

Steps to take:

Select "Room Changes" on the Michigan Housing Portal.
Submit your request for your desired apartment change.
If an apartment matching your request becomes available, you will receive an offer by email.

Leaving?

Moving out of the Northwood Community Apartments

Current contracts end on May 31, 2026. If you intend to move out on your contract end date, please let us know between February 17, 2026 and March 10, 2026.

Steps to take to confirm your departure at the end of your contract:

Beginning February 17, 2026, if you plan to leave at the end of your contract, please fill out the End Your Contract form in the Michigan Housing Portal.

Once you submit the form, this date cannot be changed. We recommend that you confirm all moving arrangements, including movers and transportation before confirming your departure.

You may end your contract early. However, you may be subject to an 80% cancellation fee if you terminate your contract early. More information is available in Housing Terms and Conditions.

Steps to take to end your contract early:

Select "End Your Contract" on the Michigan Housing Portal .
Choose your exact move-out date. Once you submit the form, this date cannot be changed. We recommend that you confirm all moving arrangements, including movers and transportation, before you submit your move-out date.

If the early contract termination fee is waived, rent will be prorated. If your vacate date falls between the 1st through the 15th of the month, rent will be prorated through the 15th. If you vacate after the 15th, rent will not be prorated and you will be billed for the full month. We do not prorate rent by the day.

Moving out of Munger Graduate Residences

Current contracts end May 23, 2026 or July 23, 2026. If you intend to move out on your contract end date, please let us know between February 17, 2026 and March 10, 2026.
