M Housing Policy Changes for 2025-2026
Policy changes can occur when: (a) federal, state, or local laws/regulations require a change in policy, (b) University policies or ordinances change, or (c) conditions are identified that require adjustments to continue to support an environment where every resident can live, study and build community in their home free from disruptions and distractions.
Minor changes, such as grammar, minor rephrasing not affecting the meaning of a policy, and reordering/relocation of items from one section to another are not listed in this document.
Change 1. Room Door Decorations not permitted (CLAM)
Recent and increased incidents of door vandalism and destruction of property in the residence halls have had an adverse impact on our community. These damages have caused disruptions and distractions to residents. Effective Spring Term (May 6), Michigan Housing policy will not permit residents to display anything on resident room doors (e.g., posters, flyers, flags, dry erase/chalk boards), as well as other doors in residence halls, such as custodian closets and office doors. This is in addition to the already prohibited displays in resident windows.
Change 2. Solicitation and Canvassing Activities updated (CLAM and M Housing policies website)
This policy was predominantly located in the CLAM in prior years. Recognizing that some individuals may not be able to locate the policy within this document, the parts of the policy affecting non-residents (Table Use Guidelines and Online Application) has been moved to the Policies page of the Housing website.
Change 3. Receipt of items prohibited in Michigan Housing (CLAM)
In Section 3: Community Living Standards/Community Expectations, the following line was added: Items prohibited in Michigan Housing may not be mailed to any Michigan Housing package room.
CLAM = Community Living at Michigan
Terms and Conditions = M Housing Terms and Conditions
